The Great Train Robbery Review/Plot
Beginning of the story
The story begins in a bank where a group of masked robbers are planning to rob the bank. One of them, named Bruce, starts attacking the employees as soon as he enters the bank. They expected to find a lot of gold, but find only some money in the box. Disappointed with this failed robbery, they now plan to carry out a bigger robbery.
Preparing a new plan
Bruce’s partner Charlie is introduced to a lawyer clerk who comes up with a new plan. The clerk tells him that a train that travels from Glasgow to London in 12 hours stops at every post office, and all the money is loaded onto the train. This money is royal, i.e. “Queen’s treasure”, and has very little security. Charlie tells Bruce about the plan, and Bruce approves it.
Involving partners in the plan
Bruce needed a person who could change the train signals so that the train could stop at any place. A florist who knew how to change the signals was recruited into his gang. After this, they search for a house where all the stolen money can be hidden.
Train robbery proceedings
At 3 am on 8 August 1963, the team reaches the spot where the train was to be stopped by changing the signal. As soon as the signal is changed, the train stops and all the bandits enter the train. They capture the train pilot and call their train driver, but due to a technical problem the train is not able to move. Finally, with the help of the real pilot, the train is able to move.
The success of the robbery
Bruce and his gang successfully carry out this robbery and load all the money in their trucks and bring it home. Everyone is surprised to see so much money. The news of this robbery spreads all over the world.
Fear of police investigation and getting caught
Bruce and his companions try to destroy the evidence to escape from the police, but the police soon reaches their hideout. One by one all the members are arrested. The police hired a detective named Butler to solve this case. Under his able leadership, all the members of the gang are caught, but Bruce manages to escape.
Justice and punishment
Eventually, all the gang members are brought to court, and are sentenced to 30 years each, the longest sentences given in Britain at the time.
Arrest of Bruce
A few years later, Bruce is also caught by the police. But 90% of the stolen money was never found. Therefore, in 1971, England replaced its entire currency so that the stolen currency would no longer be of any use.
documentary on theft
Years later, some filmmakers ask Bruce for permission to make a documentary on the robbery. Bruce agrees to tell them the truth, including the name of the railway official who helped him.
The story behind this historic theft remains a mystery to this day as to whether the money was used or just became waste paper.
